Third Sunday in Lent
Order of Worship
Prelude – There is a Fountain
Greeting/Welcome
Call to Worship
Leader: The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims God’s handiwork.
People: Your law, O God, is perfect, reviving our souls, and your commandments are sure, rejoicing our hearts.
Leader: Let our words and worship, the meditation of our hearts, be acceptable to you,
People: O God, our rock and our redeemer!
Opening Prayer (Unison)
O Wise God, you have come to us in the form of a vulnerable child; you teach us that the last are first and the first, last; you lead us on a Way to new life that leads through death. Truly your wisdom is different than ours!
Meet us in right now and teach us your wisdom and your vulnerable power;
give us joy to receive it fully and courage to live it, through Jesus Christ, your Wisdom and Word. Amen.
Opening Hymn – Lift High the Cross
Prayer of Confession
Leader: Jesus, cleanser of temples and souls, at this mid-point in the Lenten journey, look deep within our hearts and our lives, and clear away all that holds us back.
People: May our minds, spirits and bodies be a Temple that is open to your presence: and may our words and our actions be transparent to your love and truth. We pray that this church community, will be purified in its life and mission, so that all that we do may reveal your Gospel to others. In a moment of silence, we sit before you, and name those things for which we seek your cleansing and healing, so that we may be more faithful disciples.
Silent Prayer
Assurance of Pardon
Leader: Friends of Jesus, we are made clean by the words he has spoken to us. There is room in our lives and in our community for the Holy One to dwell.
People: Thanks be to God! Amen!
